Research Interest Statement
Much of my research focuses on commodity price dynamics and is motivated by questions such as: Why are commodity prices so volatile? Why is there so much trading in commodity and financial markets? What types of traders populate markets and how do their actions exacerbate or reduce volatility? How do exchange-based markets interact with over-the-counter markets? What is the role of regulation? How do commodity markets interact with financial markets and the macroeconomy? I approach these questions empirically, which reflects my background and ongoing interest in econometrics. Although I focus on commodities, my interests extend into many areas of economics, statistics, and agriculture, and additional research projects follow accordingly.
